معرفی
Dr. Antony Scimone is a Research Fellow at the University of Bradford addressing the critical global challenge of antimicrobial resistance, with research focused on developing novel materials and methods to combat biofilm-associated infections that contribute significantly to treatment failures. His work directly responds to the O'Neill report's prediction of 10 million annual deaths from antimicrobial resistance by 2050.
His research encompasses:
- Novel antimicrobial compounds and materials for biofilm-associated infections
- Surface modifications for hygienic applications
- Micro- and nano-topography modification to disrupt biofilms
- Self-cleaning and anti-fouling photocatalytic thin films
- Mechanisms of biofilm formation and maintenance
- Rapid testing methodology development
Dr. Scimone's publication record demonstrates his dual focus on technical innovation and public engagement, with recent work on rapid assessment methods for antibacterial coatings and strategies for involving the public in biofilm control efforts. His approach recognizes that biofilms enable microorganisms to coordinate resistance responses and share resistance genes, making them a critical target in the antimicrobial resistance crisis.
He earned his BSc in Biomedical Science in 2013 from Manchester Metropolitan University and completed his PhD in antimicrobial materials in 2019.
