His research explores the interplay between human-nonhuman relations, environmental sociology, and the institutional culture of academia. Recent work includes a SSHRC-funded study on adults adjusting to Asperger's syndrome diagnoses. He advocates for ethnographic and qualitative methodologies, with publications spanning topics like open-access publishing, Mead's social theory, and climate crisis sociology.
Key publication trends over the past decade reveal sustained engagement with symbolic interactionism, environmental sociology, and science studies. His 2025 article "Social Worlds in the Academic Hinterland" examines institutional dynamics, while 2024 ethics-focused works propose paradigm shifts in research governance. Environmental themes like Bruno Latour's pandemic-climate analysis (2022) and intersectional ecological ethnography (2021) demonstrate interdisciplinary breadth.
As an academic leader, Puddephatt chairs the sociology department while maintaining active research and teaching roles. His email contact is apuddeph@lakeheadu.ca, and his office is in Ryan Building 2034.
