Antony Harold serves as a Professor in the Department of Biology at the College of Charleston, based at the Grice Marine Laboratory in James Island, South Carolina. His academic work centers on fish systematics and marine ecological research.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland
- M.S. in Zoology from the University of Toronto
- B.S. from the University of Toronto
Professor Harold's research program investigates phylogenetics, morphometrics, taxonomy, biogeography, and ecology of teleostean fishes, with primary focus on deep-sea hatchetfishes (Sternoptychidae, especially Polyipnus), codlets (Bregmacerotidae), gobies (Gobiidae including Gobiodon, Gobiosoma, and Ctenogobius), and Neotropical characids (Creagrutus). His ecological studies emphasize dietary analysis through gut content examination of inshore fishes and juvenile carangids (Trachinotus).
He teaches core courses including BIOL 335: Biology of Fishes, BIOL 340: Zoogeography, BIOL 445/645: Systematic Biology, BIOL 350: Evolution, and BIOL 632/EVSS 724: Ichthyology, integrating field research with classroom instruction.
Based at the Grice Marine Laboratory (205 Fort Johnson Road, 125, James Island, SC 29412), his work bridges laboratory analysis with marine field studies in the coastal ecosystems of South Carolina.
