Antonin Faes

Dr. Antonin Faes is a Scientist and Team Leader in PV Modules and Reliability at the EPFL Photovoltaics and Thin Film Electronics Laboratory (PV-LAB). He also serves as Solar Mobility Area Manager at the CSEM PV-Center. Graduating as a materials science engineer from EPFL, he earned his PhD in 2010 for research on oxide fuel cells. His career includes developing the Smart-Wire Connection Technology (SWCT®) with Meyer Burger and leading work packages in the HighLite EU project focused on solar module monitoring.

Dr. Faes specializes in photovoltaic systems, with a focus on solar module reliability, advanced materials for energy conversion, and thin-film electronics. His work bridges fundamental research in solid oxide fuel cells with applied innovations in photovoltaic technologies. Publications highlight his contributions to microstructural analysis of anode supports (2007), characterization of cermet materials (2006), and organic photovoltaic devices using cyanine dyes (2005).

Notable awards include the DuPont des Matériaux Award (2012) for his PhD thesis and a Best Poster Award at the 2009 Microscopy Conference (MC2009). He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers and patents, with significant citations in energy materials research.

Dr. Faes has advised PhD students including Courtant Marie Amélie Camille and past EPFL PhD student Borja Block Alejandro. His affiliations span EPFL’s Institute of Materials (IEM) and the CSEM PV-Center, reflecting his dual role in academic and industrial research settings.
