Antonia Devine serves as a Lecturer at Yale University's School of Architecture, teaching specialized courses that bridge architectural theory with real-world development practices since Spring 2022. Her primary course The Architect As: Recasting the Role of the Architect in the Development Lifecycle (2240) examines the architect's evolving role across real estate development phases from site acquisition to building operations, with students developing design-driven proposals for New Haven sites.
Her research interests focus on the intersection of architectural design and real estate development, emphasizing how architects can reclaim agency within the development lifecycle. She investigates strategies for integrating sustainable practices, optimizing air rights, and creating financially viable community-focused projects, particularly in urban contexts undergoing gentrification like Long Island City where she co-teaches studio projects addressing artist housing needs.
Professional honors include the Spring 2025 Bass Fellowship, AIA membership, and LEED AP certification. She convened the 2022 Yale symposium What Works: The Planning and Development Legacy of Alexander Garvin and serves on the board of Tools & Tiaras, a nonprofit introducing girls to STEM and construction trades.
Devine actively mentors students through studio courses like the Advanced Design Studio: Work in Progress (1112), where she provides developer perspective on projects addressing real-world challenges such as Sculpture Center's expansion needs. Her industry experience informs practical grant-writing approaches focused on community impact and sustainable development models.
She leads collaborative initiatives including the Bass Developer Studio, which partners with organizations like Sculpture Center to develop integrated solutions addressing urban planning, community needs, and housing affordability through architectural innovation.
