Abigail Chang serves as an Adjunct Professor and critic at Yale School of Architecture, where she teaches Advanced Design Studios and core architecture courses. Her multidisciplinary practice bridges art, architecture, and critical theory, with recent appointments including Spring 2026 Advanced Design Studio and Fall 2024 Architectural Design 3.
Her research focuses on material encounters in the built environment, exploring how framing devices, screens, and reflective surfaces mediate spatial experiences. Key projects include the Skeuomorphic Screens dwelling prototype and Display Window installation at the Design Museum of Chicago, examining technology's role in architectural phenomenology.
Chang's work investigates ethical material provenance, as demonstrated in the Spring 2024 studio Provenance & Possibility examining biogenic materials and craft ethics. Her installations have been exhibited internationally at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2019), Seoul Biennale (2021), and upcoming Chicago Architecture Biennial (2025).
- Emerging Visions Award (Chicago Architectural Club, 2023)
- Supported by Graham Foundation, Mark Foster Gage Foundation, YSOA
She advises on institutional development through studios like Spring 2025's Work in Progress addressing artist housing at Sculpture Center. Her practice integrates historical research with contemporary urban challenges, particularly in Long Island City's evolving cultural landscape.
