Antonia Dawes

Antonia Dawes is a Lecturer in Social Justice at the School of Education, Communication & Society, King's College London, within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. Her research focuses on the intersection of race, postcolonialism, and critical military studies, examining topics such as militarism, citizenship, and urban multiculture. She leads the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'The Military in our Midst' exploring civil-military interactions in Salisbury Plain and previously contributed to the ESRC/MOD-funded KEiR project on military reservists' identities. She teaches modules including 'Introduction to Social Theory' and 'Critical Perspectives on Education.' Her work includes the book Race Talk (Manchester UP, 2020) analyzing racism in Neapolitan street markets, and recent publications on military reservist integration and defense policy impacts.

Research Interests: Her research bridges ethnography with critical theory, addressing militarization, racialization, and collective action. Key themes include the socio-political dimensions of military presence in civilian spaces, the lived experiences of marginalized communities, and the discursive construction of difference in urban environments.
