Antonia Agapiou is a Researcher at the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC) of The Cyprus Institute. She joined CyI in September 2021 and is currently pursuing a PhD in STARC. Her academic background includes a BSc in Anthropology (University of Roehampton), an MSc in Forensic Archaeology (Bournemouth University), and an MSc in Digital Cultural Heritage (CyI).
Her research focuses on applying artificial intelligence, digital tools, and forensic methodologies to cultural heritage preservation. Notably, she has worked on projects to combat illicit trafficking of cultural goods and has contributed to excavations in Cyprus and the UK, including work with the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus. Her expertise spans digital archaeology, forensic archaeology, and cultural heritage management.
Recent publications highlight her work on AI-driven platforms for cultural heritage protection and digital skills in humanities. Antonia’s research aligns with CyI’s mission to integrate technology with archaeological and cultural studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to heritage preservation.
Her current PhD research further explores the intersection of digital technologies and cultural heritage challenges.
