Antoni Rubí Barceló is a Senior Lecturer in the Applied Economics department at the University of the Balearic Islands' Faculty of Economics and Business, where he serves as vice-dean. He earned his Bachelor in Management and Business Administration from UIB in 2002 and completed his PhD in Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Antonio Cabrales. Following his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge in 2008 and served as a teaching assistant at Universitat Pompeu Fabra from 2004-2008 before joining UIB as a lecturer in 2008.
Dr. Rubí Barceló's research focuses on Game Theory and Behavioral Economics, with additional expertise in Economic Theory and Micro-economic Theory. His work examines strategic decision-making processes, group conflicts, bargaining models, and social network structures. His research demonstrates consistent exploration of how individuals and groups make strategic choices under various constraints and incentive structures.
He has published extensively in top economics journals including Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Social Choice and Welfare, Public Choice, European Journal of Political Economy, and Theory and Decision. His publications show a strong trajectory focusing on game-theoretic models applied to political economy, social dynamics, and decision-making processes, with increasing attention to environmental policy applications in recent years.
Dr. Rubí Barceló is an active member of two research groups: Conflict and Strategic Interaction (CIE), a Consolidated R+D+I Group, and Decision Science (DSL), also a Consolidated R+D+I Group. These affiliations reflect his commitment to collaborative research in strategic decision-making contexts.
His teaching portfolio includes Games and Strategic Decisions and Final Degree Project in Economics, taught across multiple programs including Economics, Mathematics, and the Double Degree in Economics and Tourism. He has consistently taught these courses from the 2020-21 academic year through the current 2024-25 year and is scheduled to teach them in the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.
