Antoni Cladera Bohigas

Dr. Antoni Cladera Bohigas is a Full Professor in Construction Engineering at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he also serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Construction since 2020. He holds a PhD in Construction/Structural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2003), where he received the Outstanding Doctorate Award. After teaching at UPC from 2001-2003, he joined UIB where he has built a distinguished career in structural engineering education and research.

His research focuses on structural engineering with particular emphasis on the behavior of deteriorated concrete structures and applications of shape memory alloys for structural strengthening. Professor Cladera has published over 85 papers, participated in more than 165 conferences, and collaborated on drafting the Spanish Structural Concrete Code (2008). His work has earned him inclusion in the Stanford University/Elsevier list of the Top 2% of Scientists worldwide for 2023 and 2024.

His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on iron-based shape memory alloys (Fe-SMA) for structural applications, particularly examining their behavior under semi-cyclic loading conditions, recovery stress characteristics, and implementation in concrete strengthening techniques. These works span multiple structural elements including beams, slabs, and hollow-core systems, with applications in both new construction and rehabilitation of existing structures.

He has extensive experience in academic management, having served as Associate Vice-Rector for University Infrastructure (2008-2012), Coordinator of the PhD Program in Physics (2018-2021), and Director of the Miquel Llabrés Feliu Foundation Chair (2007-2010). He co-founded the educational YouTube channel 'Ingenia-ConStruct,' which has accumulated over 1.9 million views. His international experience includes engineering work in Guinea-Conakry, Niger, Togo, India, Paraguay, El Salvador, and East Timor, as well as research stays at the University of Toronto and EMPA.
