Dr. Anton Cox is a Reader in Mathematics and currently serves as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at City St George's, University of London. His academic career spans over two decades at the institution, having joined the Mathematics Department in 1999 after postdoctoral positions at Oxford, Bielefeld, and Stuttgart Universities.
His educational background includes a BA(Hons) in Mathematics from Clare College, Cambridge (1990-1994), followed by a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics, and a PhD in Mathematics from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London (1997).
Cox's research primarily focuses on representation theory, specifically studying representations of algebraic groups and related algebraic objects. His work often involves collaborations with researchers internationally, including teams in Australia, China, and across the UK. His recent publications demonstrate significant contributions to the understanding of quiver Hecke algebras, Brauer algebras, and their connections to geometric representation theory and combinatorics.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals a strong trend toward diagrammatic approaches to representation theory, with increasing focus on connections between different algebraic structures through combinatorial and geometric methods. His work bridges pure algebra with geometric interpretations, particularly evident in his recent papers on path combinatorics and isomorphisms between different diagrammatic algebra systems.
Cox is an active member of the mathematical community, serving as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and contributing to the Representation Theory research group at City St George's. He teaches undergraduate courses including Game Theory (MA3662) and has maintained continuous research activity throughout his career.
His professional memberships include the Institute of Mathematics (since 2011) and the London Mathematical Society (since 2001), reflecting his standing within the mathematical community.
