Dr. Anton Batliner is an associated researcher at the Department of Phonetics, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He holds a Dr. phil. in Phonetics (1978) and an M.A. in Scandinavian Languages (1973). His career includes roles as assistant professor (1978–1984) and subsequent research specialization in prosody. His work focuses on prosody’s role in syntax/semantics, speech emotion, and automatic speech recognition, supported by grants from the DFG and BMFT.

Research Interests: Prosody’s linguistic function (sentence mood/accent), prosodic classification of speech units, perception of intonation contours, and the psychophysics of fundamental frequency. His earlier work included Scandinavian literature, translation studies, and gender linguistics.
Grants & Labs: Active in multiple DFG/BMFT-funded projects since 1984. Collaborates with research groups on intonation/prosody and speech technology. His work bridges experimental phonetics with computational linguistics.
