Antoine Le Guernic is a Lecturer and Head of Education for the Master 1 Biodiversity program at the University of Angers' Faculty of Sciences. His research focuses on ecotoxicology of emerging contaminants (nanomaterials, micro/nanoplastics) in coastal and estuarine environments, emphasizing adverse outcome pathways (AOP) across biological scales. He leads the PLASTERA project assessing microplastic risks in the Loire River and supervises the thesis of Evan Bossard.
Education: PhD in Physiology and Organism-Population-Interaction Biology from Reims University (2015), Postgraduate Certificate in Animal Experimentation (2013). Has qualifications as a Professor in Sections 67 and 68 (France).
Research interests include biomarker development, immune responses in model species like Dreissena polymorpha, and environmental risk assessment. Key contributions include detecting SARS-CoV-2 in zebra mussels, studying protozoan parasite impacts on bivalves, and evaluating microplastic toxicity in estuarine environments. His work integrates field and lab studies to inform environmental management strategies.
Teaching includes Toxicology, Sustainable Development Principles, Ecophysiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Analysis Methods. Active in the BIOSSE research team and affiliated with the UCO's environmental science network.
