Patrick Gillet is a Lecturer and HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) holder at the University of Angers (UCO), Faculty of Sciences. His primary research focuses on polychaete annelids as biological indicators in marine and estuarine ecosystems, particularly regarding pollution and ecosystem health. He has supervised doctoral research, such as Nor eddine CHOUikh's thesis on polychaete communities in Morocco. Gillet holds a PhD in ecology from Aix-Marseille University (1986) and an HDR from the University of Lille (2002). His work spans ecotoxicology, marine biodiversity, and population dynamics, with a strong emphasis on environmental impact assessments.
Key research themes include the role of Hediste diversicolor in bioturbation and ecosystem engineering, microplastic pollution effects, and recovery of estuarine ecosystems post-pollution. His publications highlight collaborations across institutions in Europe and North Africa, addressing contamination in the Seine and Loire estuaries, Moroccan coasts, and Algerian marine parks. He contributes to programs like BIOMAR (Morocco), ECOTONES (Seine Estuary), and BRANCUSI (Romania).
Teaching responsibilities include courses on ecology, population dynamics, environmental management, and estuarine ecology at undergraduate and graduate levels. His research has been supported by grants from the Programme National Ecotoxicologie (PNETOX), PHC VOLUBILIS, and others. He is affiliated with the BIOSSE laboratory, focusing on marine and estuarine ecological studies.
