Anthony W. Ammons is an Instructor of Horn Studies at Mars Hill University, where he has taught since 2011. He holds a B.M. in Music Education from Mars Hill University (1988) and an M.M. from Appalachian State University (1989). Prior to his academic role, he served for 30 years as a band director in North Carolina Public Schools, retiring in 2021. He is a National Board-Certified Teacher and recipient of the NC Bandmasters Association's 'Award of Excellence' and 'Teacher of the Year' honors.
At Mars Hill, Ammons teaches applied horn, conducts the horn ensemble, and serves on the faculty of the Mars Hill University Summer Music Camp. He is an active freelance hornist in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina, performing with ensembles like the Brevard Philharmonic and Asheville Community Band. He also maintains a private horn instruction practice with local school bands.
