Anthony Vecchiarelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. His research focuses on subcellular organization in bacteria, using interdisciplinary approaches such as genetics, biochemistry, and cell-free reconstitution. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Toronto (2010) and completed postdoctoral training at the NIH. He has received awards including the NSF CAREER Award and the Cozzarelli Prize. Vecchiarelli teaches courses like 'Building a Synthetic Cell' and mentors numerous graduate students. His lab explores bacterial organelles, ParA/MinD ATPases, and biomolecular condensates. He leads grants totaling over $5M in NIH/NIGMS and NSF funding. His outreach activities include developing museum exhibits on cyanobacteria and climate change.
