Anthony Nguyen

Dr Anthony Nguyen is a Research Team Leader and Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO's Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) within the Health and Biosecurity Business Unit. He leads the Health Data & Text Analytics team, focusing on clinical Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI-driven analysis of unstructured medical records to improve healthcare outcomes.

Academic Qualifications:

• BEng (First Class Honours) in Aerospace Avionics from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 1999.
• PhD in Satellite and Aerial Image Processing from QUT in 2005.

Research Interests: Combines text mining, deep learning, large language models, and SNOMED CT semantics to enhance clinical NLP, interoperability, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mitigation. His work supports decision-making in Emergency Departments and public health surveillance.

Professional Contributions: Since 2006, has held progressively senior roles at CSIRO, including Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Scientist, and Senior Research Scientist. Served as a Visiting Academic at the University of Queensland (2016-2019). Deployed AI solutions at the Qld Cancer Register for real-time analysis of histopathology reports and developed pandemic response dashboards during the COVID-19 crisis.
