Anthony Marsh is a Professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University and Senior Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. He holds affiliate faculty appointments in the VT-WFU School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences and Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.
- Undergraduate & Master's: University of Western Australia
- PhD: Arizona State University in Exercise Science
Dr. Marsh's research focuses on preventing functional loss and mobility disability in older adults through interventions like exercise and nutritional supplements (e.g., Vitamin D, beetroot juice). His work spans biomedical engineering, geriatrics, and musculoskeletal health, with over 120 peer-reviewed publications and NIH funding.
His recent publications analyze contrast sensitivity as a predictor of mobility decline, exercise modality impacts on muscle and bone quality during weight loss, and device-measured physical activity in mobility-limited populations. Trends highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining neuroimaging, clinical trials, and digital health tools.
- Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine
- Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America
- Editorial Board Member: Journals of Gerontology: Medical Sciences
Administratively, Dr. Marsh has served as HES Graduate Program Director, Chair of the WFU Institutional Review Board, and Interim Dean of the College. He is a leader in the LIFE Study and develops predictive models for mobility disability using finite-element analysis and accelerometry.
