Anthony Magistrale is a Professor and former Chair of the English Department at the University of Vermont (UVM), where he has taught since 1983. His research focuses on Anglo-American Gothicism, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, and horror film. He has authored 26 books and numerous articles, with major works exploring Gothic literature’s evolution and its intersections with popular culture.

- Affiliations: Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Milan (Italy); Lecturer at Pontificia Catholic University (Chile) and institutions across Europe and the Americas.
Magistrale’s research integrates interdisciplinary approaches to horror art, with frequent media appearances (PBS, NPR, international newspapers). He served as Stephen King’s research assistant (2005–2009) and published three King interviews. His 2017 book on The Shawshank Redemption analyzes film, literature, and fan theory.

He has advised numerous honors programs and contributed to initiatives like the John Dewey Honors Program. His work bridges academic scholarship with public engagement, evident in lectures at Ashland University and the Ira Allen Society.
