Anthony Kolenic

Anthony Kolenic serves as the Director of the University of Michigan’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. He holds roles as Faculty Associate in American Culture and Faculty Affiliate in the Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG). He also contributes to advisory committees for the Arts Initiative, the Well-being Collective, and the Office of Research’s Council of Centers and Institutes. His work focuses on nature-based interventions for human health, sustainability practices in public spaces, and community-driven models for land-relations impacting food systems and justice.

Previously, Kolenic was Associate Dean for Research + Strategic Initiatives and Associate Professor of Digital Arts + Sciences at the University of Florida before returning to the University of Michigan. His interdisciplinary approach bridges environmental stewardship, cultural studies, and community engagement. Key interests include food sovereignty, equitable land practices, and the intersection of art, science, and public policy.
