Anthony Knap is a Research Professor and Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University, affiliated with the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG). He previously served as Director of GERG and held the James R Whatley Chair of Geosciences. His expertise spans oceanography, organic geochemistry, and environmental science, with focus on atmosphere-ocean interactions, oil pollution, climate change, and marine-derived biofuels.
Research Interests:
- Oil pollution and dispersant effects on marine ecosystems
- Climate change impacts on ocean health and human health linkages
- Renewable energy and marine genomics
- Contaminant dynamics in coastal and open ocean systems
Articles (2017–2020) highlight studies on oil toxicity to deep-sea organisms, hurricane-driven environmental changes, and oil-spill biogeochemistry. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches linking science and industry, such as disaster risk management and insurance modeling.
Awards include an Honorary Fellowship from Plymouth Marine Laboratory (2007–present). Professional roles include leadership in global ocean observing systems and advisory boards for energy and insurance sectors. He oversees GERG’s research and collaborates internationally on marine conservation and climate resilience.
