Anthony Jakeman

Anthony Jakeman serves as Director of the Integrated Catchment Assessment & Management Centre at the Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University. With over four decades of academic experience since joining ANU in 1976, he has established himself as a leading figure in environmental systems modeling and water resources management.

His research expertise spans integrated water resources assessment and modeling, decision support system development, and the solution of inverse problems in environmental contexts. Jakeman specializes in the development, calibration, analysis, sensitivity and uncertainty assessment of hydrologic and water resource systems models, with particular focus on water quality and supply modeling as well as dynamic water balance modeling using conceptual approaches.

Professional recognition includes:

• Long-standing presidency of the Modelling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand
• Foundational leadership of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society
• Editorial leadership of the influential Environmental Modelling and Software journal

Under his direction since 1997, the iCAM Centre has grown to include 10 research staff and 12 PhD students, supported by technical and management personnel. His international collaborations span prestigious institutions including Stanford, Cambridge, Lancaster Universities, CSIRO Land and Water, and the UK Institute of Hydrology, reflecting his global impact in environmental modeling research.
