Professor Anthony J. Langlois serves as the inaugural Stan Perron Dean of Applied Ethics at Curtin University's Faculty of Business and Law, where he leads the Curtin Centre for Applied Ethics. His role focuses on developing ethical leadership frameworks for business and legal professionals through curriculum innovation and industry partnerships.
Langlois earned his academic credentials through a BA (Hons First Class) from the University of Tasmania followed by a PhD from the Australian National University. His foundational training bridges humanities and political science, informing his interdisciplinary approach to global ethics.
His research critically examines Human Rights through lenses of Applied Ethics and Global Sexuality Politics, with regional expertise in Southeast Asia. Langlois challenges universalist assumptions while analyzing how cultural contexts shape LGBTQ+ rights implementation. His work interrogates tensions between 'Asian values' discourse and international human rights norms, particularly regarding family structures and political participation.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals increasing focus on crisis contexts (climate, pandemics, digital governance) impacting human rights. His scholarship demonstrates methodological diversity spanning political theory, empirical Southeast Asian case studies, and editorial leadership in specialized handbooks. The consistent thread remains ethical frameworks for marginalized communities within non-Western governance systems.
As director of the Curtin Centre for Applied Ethics, Langlois oversees interdisciplinary collaborations addressing contemporary ethical dilemmas in business and law. The Centre serves as Western Australia's primary hub for ethics research, connecting academic theory with industry applications through workshops, policy briefings, and corporate partnerships focused on responsible leadership development.
