Dr. Anthony Ivan Day is a distinguished researcher at UNSW Canberra, affiliated with the School of Physical, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences. He maintains an active research program focused on supramolecular chemistry and macrocyclic systems, with his laboratory located in Room 220 PEMS North (Building 22) at the Australian Defence Force Academy campus.
His research expertise spans organic chemistry, synthetic design, and the development of new synthetic techniques, with specific focus areas in Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal and Biomolecular Chemistry, and Nanochemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry. Day is recognized as a principal developer of the cucurbit[n]uril family of macrocyclic host molecules, holding international patents for both the original compounds and their derivatives.
His publication record includes 74 journal articles, 2 book chapters, 6 conference papers, 1 conference presentation, 9 theses/dissertations, and 1 patent. Current research emphasizes applications of cucurbit[n]uril in drug delivery systems, with particular interest in developing pharmaceutical applications through synthetic chemistry approaches.
- International patents as inventor of cucurbit[n]uril family
- International patents on cucurbit[n]uril derivatives
Dr. Day offers PhD scholarship opportunities ($35,000 per year) for high-achieving students with First Class Honors or equivalent qualifications in Chemistry. His research continues to explore innovative synthetic methods for preparing cucurbit[n]uril derivatives to extend applications in drug delivery and other fields.
