Anthony Hilton is a Professor and PVC & Executive Dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University. He holds dual appointments in the School of Biosciences and the Biosciences Research Group (BRG). With over 25 years of experience, he specializes in applied microbiology focusing on food, clinical, and environmental settings, employing molecular biology techniques and whole genome sequencing to study bacterial pathogens. His leadership roles include strategic vision development, budget management, and cross-sector collaboration.

- BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences (1st Class), University of Wolverhampton (1989-1993)
- PG Cert in Learning & Teaching in HE, Aston University (2003)
Research Interests: Applied microbiology with a focus on bacterial pathogen characterization, molecular epidemiology, food safety, environmental contamination, and public engagement. His work addresses real-world challenges in clinical, industrial, and veterinary contexts.
Key areas include Salmonella, Campylobacter, MRSA, and E. coli O157, alongside microbiome analysis and vector-borne disease.
Media & Outreach: A prominent science communicator with appearances on TV programs like Grime Scene Investigation and contributions to major festivals. He pioneered the World of Microbiology outreach program, including mobile labs for schools in the UK and Africa. His efforts have earned awards such as the Society for Applied Microbiology’s Public Engagement Award.
