Anthony F. Di Stefano is a distinguished academic and administrator at Salus University, formerly the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO). He joined the PCO faculty in 1974 as an Assistant Professor of Public Health and has held numerous leadership roles, including Assistant Dean for Academic Development, Vice President and Dean of Academic Advancement, and Dean of Academic Affairs. His career spans over four decades, marked by contributions to institutional growth, strategic planning, and program development.
Dr. Di Stefano holds an OD from PCO (1973), an MEd from Temple University (concurrent with his OD), and an MPH from Johns Hopkins University (1974). He is a pioneer in integrating public health into optometric education and has led the development of innovative programs such as the Master of Science in Vision Rehabilitation and the PhD in Biomedicine. Under his guidance, Salus University achieved university status in 2008.
His research and professional focus include global optometric education, public health policy, healthcare administration, and international health. He served as Executive Director of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), establishing its collaboration with the WHO and shaping global optometric standards. His work emphasizes bridging public health with specialized fields like optometry, audiology, and rehabilitation.
Dr. Di Stefano’s legacy includes over 100 contributions to institutional growth, including the establishment of the Salus MPH program and the International and Continuing Education Department. His awards reflect his global impact, including the FCOptom (the UK College of Optometrists’ highest honor).
