Anthony E. Zamora, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine (Hematology and Oncology) and Microbiology & Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His research focuses on viral and cancer immunology, with an emphasis on engineering immune cells to enhance specificity and reduce off-target effects. He also addresses disparities in cancer research through developing tools to understand antitumor immunity across demographics. Dr. Zamora holds a PhD in Immunology from the University of California, Davis (2015) and completed postdoctoral training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Research interests include tumor antigen discovery, mechanisms of antitumor immunity, and translational strategies to improve therapies like CAR T-cell therapy. His lab’s recent work highlights advancements in CAR T manufacturing, neoantigen targeting in fibrolamellar carcinoma, and mitigating graft-versus-host disease through IL-34 signaling. Key publications address neuroinflammation in GVHD, demographic gaps in CAR-T utilization, and molecular mechanisms underlying T cell responses.
Lab members include graduate student Tanya Kozlik and research technologist Marlenny Vargas-Cortes. The lab collaborates on projects spanning immunogenomics, computational biology, and clinical translation. Dr. Zamora’s work aims to bridge basic science discoveries with equitable, effective cancer treatments.
