Associate Professor Anthony Dracopoulos is Chair of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies at The University of Sydney's School of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds a BEc from Macquarie University, MA from Sydney University, and PhD from Flinders University. His research focuses on 19th/20th-century Greek poetry, literary theory, comparative literature, and modernism/postmodernism. He has taught at Macquarie, Flinders, and Panteion Universities.
Dracopoulos' current projects include studies on Cavafy's polysemy and the concept of homeland in comparative contexts. He supervises students in Greek poetry, literary value, modernism, and comparative literature. Recent articles explore Karouzos' existential themes, Valtinos' narratives, and Cavafy's urban poetics.
He serves on Library, Undergraduate, and Research committees at the University of Sydney, and held roles in MGSANZ executive. His 2005 grant investigated ambiguity in Cavafy's work. Supervised students include Eva Boleti (Multilingual Archive) and Sophia Sakellis (Greek Female Directors' Films).
Publications span Cavafy monographs, Seferis reception studies, and critical analyses in journals like Modern Greek Studies and CLC Web. His work bridges literary analysis with cultural and existential themes in Hellenic contexts.
