Professor Anthony Dosseto is a faculty member at the University of Wollongong's School of Science, specializing in isotope geochemistry and its applications across disciplines. He leads the Wollongong Isotope Geochronology Laboratory and has been affiliated with the university since 2022. He holds a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from Paris Diderot University (2003).
His research focuses on using isotopes to study geological processes, climate change, fire history, and human-environment interactions. Key areas include strontium isoscapes for migration studies, fire's role in landscape evolution, and metal isotopes in neurodegenerative diseases. He has contributed to projects such as reconstructing Pleistocene megafauna diets and linking environmental changes to hominin evolution.
Over 190 publications span topics like Quaternary geochronology, paleoclimatology, and biomedical applications. His work bridges geology, archaeology, and health sciences, with notable contributions to understanding fire regimes, soil dynamics, and ancient human behaviors. He has secured ARC grants for projects like 'Shaping a sunburnt country' and 'Middle Age Earth,' totaling over AUD 3 million. Current supervision includes studies on megafauna mobility, fire proxies, and uranium-series chronologies.
Leadership roles include directing the Wollongong Isotope Geochronology Lab and promoting diversity in geochemistry. Notable collaborations span institutions globally, addressing interdisciplinary challenges from ancient environments to modern health crises.
