Anthony C. Infanti is the Christopher C. Walthour, Sr. Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, with a secondary appointment in the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program. He specializes in comparative tax law, critical tax theory, and fiscal history, particularly examining the intersection of tax systems with societal discrimination, including LGBTQ+ rights.
Education: LLM (Taxation), New York University; JD, University of California, Berkeley; BA, Drew University.
Research focuses on taxation’s role in reinforcing historical injustices (e.g., slavery in colonial America), the expressive nature of tax laws, and their societal impacts. Key publications include The Human Toll: Taxation and Slavery in Colonial America (2025), Tax and Time (2022), and Our Selfish Tax Laws (2018).
Teaches Federal Income Tax, Corporate Tax, and International Tax courses. Received teaching awards, including the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Serves as Faculty Editor of the Pittsburgh Tax Review since 2003.
Awards include membership in the American Law Institute, American College of Tax Counsel, and American Bar Foundation. Advocates for tax reform to reflect societal justice and challenges heteronormative biases in tax policy.
