Anthony Byrne is a Senior Lecturer of Piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), where he has served on the academic Board of Studies from 2011–2017. He specializes in classical piano performance, with a focus on concertos and chamber music. His career includes international performances in Ireland, England, the US, Canada, and Japan. Notable performances include the Irish premiere of Leroy Anderson’s Piano Concerto (1997), Grieg’s Piano Concerto (2005 and 2015), and Saint-Saëns’ 5th Piano Concerto (2006, 2008). He has collaborated with orchestras such as the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and has performed at venues like the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, and the National Concert Hall.
Anthony has held examiner roles at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland, Royal College of Music (London), and Trinity-Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In 2022, he served on the jury for the Hastings International Piano Competition. He has also given masterclasses at the Conservatory of Music in Malaga (2012–2013).
Outside academia, he collaborates with his wife, soprano Mairead Buicke, in recitals across Ireland, London, Malaga, and New York. His repertoire spans composers like Liszt, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Chopin, and Beethoven.
