Associate Professor Anthony Barnett is a faculty member at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), affiliated with the Mary Mackillop Institute for Health Research and part of the Behaviour, Environment and Cognition Research Program. He leads the Lifestyle Behaviour Group within the iMAP (International Mind, Activities and urban Places) project and is a full HDR supervisor with expertise in exercise physiology and public health. His work spans international collaborations across Australia, Asia, Europe, and the USA.
Research Interests: His research focuses on the built environment and psychosocial influences on health outcomes across the lifespan. Key areas include physical activity in children and older adults, cognition, depression, and free-living measurement methods. He investigates how urban design, neighborhood perceptions, and socioeconomic factors shape health behaviors.
Publication Trends: His recent articles (2019–2021) emphasize cross-cultural studies on physical activity, urban environments, and mental health, particularly among adolescents and older adults. They frequently involve international consortia such as IPEN and iHealt(H), using objective and perceived environmental measures, and explore mediation and moderation effects in health behavior models.
