Anthony Abbate

Anthony Abbate is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology at Auburn University. His research focuses on pollination ecology, conservation biology, and the ecological impacts of invasive species. He holds a PhD in Entomology from Auburn University (2018-2021), an MS in Entomology from the University of Florida (2015-2017), and a BA in Biology from High Point University (2008-2012).

His current research includes the Wildflower Biochar Project (2022-2027), investigating biochar's impact on wildflower growth and pollinator attraction, and the Wildflower Best Management Practices Project (2022-2025), funded by USDA, evaluating optimal management strategies for wildflower meadows in the southeastern U.S. These projects are led by his advisees Zachary Beneduci and Madelyn Thompson.

His publications emphasize pollinator behavior, invasive species management, and agroecology. Recent work addresses the detection of Chinese Tallow DNA in environmental samples and resolving conflicts between tallow tree biological control and beekeeping. His research spans field-based studies in coastal dunes, cave ecosystems, and agricultural settings.
