Antero Holmila is a Professor in the Department of History and Ethnology at the University of Jyväskylä. He specializes in contemporary Finnish and international history, with a focus on the Cold War, crises, postwar studies, and the politics of history. His academic journey includes undergraduate studies at the University of Kent, MA at the University of Exeter, and a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London.
- Current research: Liquid Neutrality project on Finnish, Swedish, and Swiss economic diplomacy toward OPEC (2023–2027, funded by the Research Council of Finland)
- Co-editor of Nationalism and Internationalism Intertwined (Berghahn, 2022)
- Contributor to crises research, analyzing historical narratives in 20th-century European and US media
His publications span Holocaust press coverage, Cold War media, and Finland’s wartime-to-peace transitions. Recent projects include war photographers’ role in the Russia-Ukraine War and a cultural heritage lab in Central Romania. Holmila’s work bridges historical analysis with contemporary political discourse.
