Ansgar Ohly

Professor Ansgar Ohly serves as a University Professor at the Faculty of Law, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he holds the Chair of Civil Law, Intellectual Property Law and Competition Law. His academic position places him within the Department of Civil Law at one of Germany's most prestigious law schools.

Prof. Ohly's research interests focus on intellectual property law with particular emphasis on patent law, copyright law, and trademark law, along with related rights and unfair competition law. He shows special interest in EU and international law aspects of intellectual property and general principles applicable across intellectual property domains. The chair he leads co-edits the journal "Gewerblicher Rechtschutz und Urheberrecht" (GRUR), the copyright commentary founded by Gerhard Schricker, and significant commentaries on the German Act Against Unfair Competition (UWG) and on the protection of trade secrets.

Prof. Ohly oversees a team of academic staff including Associate Professor Diana Liebenau, LL.M. (Harvard), and several scientific associates and assistants who contribute to both research and teaching activities. His academic leadership extends to lecture development across multiple intellectual property domains as evidenced by recent course materials including patent law (summer semester 2024), trademark law (summer semester 2025), fair trading law (winter semester 2024/2025), and International Intellectual Property Law (Winter Semester 2021/2022).

His administrative responsibilities include managing the chair's operations with support from secretary Dawn-Yvette Ehlermann. The physical location of his office is at Ludwigstr. 29, 2nd floor, Room 206, in Munich.
