Anqi Shen is a Professor of Law at Northumbria Law School, with adjunct roles at Nanjing University and Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. She also serves as a Fellow of the Jiangsu Research Centre of the Development of the Regional Rule of Law in China. Previously, she held visiting positions at the Australian National University, Zhejiang Police College, and Nanjing Normal University. She is on the editorial boards of Women and Criminal Justice and Trends in Organised Crime.
Her research focuses on sentencing, policing, organized crime (including human trafficking and counterfeiting), youth justice, gender and crime, migration and crime, and gender dynamics in law enforcement. She has authored/co-authored key texts such as Women Police in Contemporary China: Gender and Policing (2022) and Internal Migration, Crime and Punishment in Contemporary China (2018).
Shen's recent work explores topics like prostitution regulation, police mental health, and equity policies for female officers. Her publications highlight intersections between gender, criminal justice systems, and public policy.
Before her academic career, Shen worked as a police officer and lawyer in China. She currently supervises postgraduate research into legal remedies for reputational damage caused by defamation.
