Anouska Carter is a Research Professor and Lead of the Physical Activity, Wellbeing and Public Health Research Group (PAWPH) at Sheffield Hallam University. She has been with the university for over 15 years, completing her PhD part-time in 2016 and becoming a Principal Researcher in 2016. Her work focuses on exercise interventions for neurological conditions like Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and workplace wellbeing strategies to improve health outcomes. She leads the PAWPH group, dedicated to impactful research and consultancy promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
Education: BSc, MSc, and PhD (part-time).
Research Interests: Exercise for chronic neurological conditions (MS), workplace wellbeing interventions, health economics, and lifestyle interventions. Her team’s research includes the ExIMS project funded by the MS Society, exploring exercise’s role in MS management and cost-effectiveness.
Grants/Projects: PI/Co-I on projects with NHS, Sheffield City Council, Innovate UK, and the MS Society. Examples include:
- Evaluation of the Start Well programme
- Exoskeleton use for MS exercise participation
- Workplace wellbeing pilot studies
SHU Wellness Service: Founder and manager of this corporate wellness service for university employees.
Future Work: Ongoing projects include probiotic trials for MS and exoskeleton feasibility studies. Her research emphasizes translating evidence into practical health solutions.
