Dr. Anouar Boukhars is a Professor of Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, part of the National Defense University. He collaborates with African security sector leaders to develop counterterrorism programs and focuses on radicalization dynamics in Africa.

- B.A. in English Literature (Ibn Tofail University, Morocco)
His research spans terrorism, violent extremism, and security challenges in the Sahel, Maghreb, and West Africa, with an emphasis on regional cooperation, Islamist movements, and border conflicts. Publications include analyses of Salafism, militant strategies, and state security policies.
Recent publications highlight evolving threats in the Sahel, the paradoxes of jihadist insurgencies, and the interplay between organized crime and extremism. His work often integrates field research from African regions.
