Annika Schebesta is a Researcher at the University of Siegen's Faculty I, Department of English Studies - Linguistics. She completed her PhD in English Linguistics in January 2025, focusing on the morpho-phonetic interface in English NNN compounds. Her research examines how morphological structure influences phonetic signals during speech production. She holds a B.A. (2012) and M.A. (2015) in Romance Studies and English Linguistics from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, with additional coursework at UC Davis. Schebesta has been a research assistant since 2015, contributing to projects like the DFG Research Unit 'Spoken Morphology' (FOR 2373). Her teaching spans courses in linguistics, phonetics, syntax, and second language acquisition at both the University of Siegen and Heinrich-Heine-Universität. Research interests include acoustic phonetics, morpho-phonology, prosodic phonology, and statistical modeling of speech data. She actively participates in academic societies like LabPhon and DGfS.
Her doctoral work bridges morphology and phonetics, utilizing corpus studies and experimental methods to analyze compound production patterns. Recent work explores semantic transparency effects on acoustic signals and contextual influences in compound processing. Schebesta has presented extensively at international conferences, focusing on topics like plosive deletion, constituent durations, and phonetic reduction in complex words. She is affiliated with the Morphological Embedding and Phonetic Reduction project, contributing to understanding spoken morphology dynamics.
