Annika Frye

Prof. Dr. Annika Frye is a German designer and design researcher currently holding the professorship for design science and research at Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel, Germany. She works at the intersection of practice and theory, focusing on the technical and aesthetic qualities of industrial design and its experimental processes. Her academic journey includes teaching positions at HfG Offenbach, HFK Bremen, and the Technical University in Aalen, with a PhD completed at HfG Offenbach on improvisation in design.

Her research interests center on digital materiality, design methodologies, and the design process as a source of innovation. Frye is currently exploring changes in design processes regarding digital materiality at the intersection of design, art, and technology, while working on a book about interfaces as hybrid artifacts between digital and analog. Her approach bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, emphasizing experimental industrial design, writing, and teaching.
