Annie Wan

Annie Wan is an Assistant Professor in the Academy of Film at the School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University. She holds a Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington, MSc in Applied Information Technology (Art and Technology) from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and a BA in Creative Media from City University of Hong Kong. Her work bridges art and science, focusing on locative media, embedded electronics, and network-based systems.

Research Interests: Explores relationships between spaces, materials, and immateriality through locative media, mechatronic art, neuroaesthetics, and systems-based installations. Her practice integrates digital fabrication, biological art, and historical contexts into immersive experiences.

Awards/Grants: Recipient of travel/project grants from institutions in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, Sweden, and Norway. Awards include the Performance Category at Asiagraph 2008 and a finalist placement in Asia Digital Art Awards 2009.

Professional Activities: Prior to her current role, she was a Visiting Research Scholar at Hong Kong Baptist University’s Academy of Visual Arts and an Artist-in-Residence/Professor at IAMAS, Japan. Her works have been exhibited globally, including at the Venice Architecture Biennale, Ogaki Biennale, and Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards.
