Annie Nguyen is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health & Human Longevity Science at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Her research focuses on resilient aging, particularly among individuals living with chronic conditions like HIV, emphasizing qualitative and community-based approaches.
Education: B.S. Biology (UCSD), MPH Public Health (Dartmouth College), Ph.D. Public and Community Health (Medical College of Wisconsin). She previously served as the President of the American Academy of Health Behavior (2022-2023) and Chair of the Aging and Public Health Section of APHA (2020-2022). She is a NIH/NIA Butler-Williams Scholar and part of the UCSD STAHR cohort.
Research interests include financial exploitation vulnerability in aging populations, mental health, HIV aging, and advance care planning. Recent studies explore social connectedness, cannabis use among older adults, and interventions to combat loneliness in HIV-positive individuals.
Her work has been funded by NIH grants, including roles as Principal Investigator for grants on community reentry for older adults and cognitive health in HIV aging. She has published extensively on topics like elder abuse, pandemic impacts, and neurocognitive correlates of financial vulnerability.
Key awards include recognition for her leadership in health behavior research and contributions to aging and HIV research. She collaborates on projects like the 'Virtual Village' initiative to address social isolation among older adults with HIV.
