Annie Maloney specializes in seventeenth-century Italian art with a focus on antiquarianism and early modern painting. Her research examines how Baroque artists interpreted ancient frescoes and how European collectors displayed global antiquities. She teaches courses on Global Baroque Art, Italian Baroque architecture, and cabinets of curiosity.
Maloney's dissertation established Pietro Santi Bartoli as a pioneer in reconstructing ancient painting history through material evidence. Her current work explores comparative antiquarianism practices across cultures. She has presented research at major conferences including the Renaissance Society of America and Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte.
