Annie Liontas is an Associate Professor of English at George Washington University, affiliated with the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. She holds dual roles as faculty at the Disquiet International Literary Program in Lisbon and as a mentor for Pen City’s incarcerated writers. Her work bridges creative writing, disability justice, and queer narratives.
Education: MFA from Syracuse University’s Creative Writing Program.
Research & Writing: Liontas authored the crip-queer memoir Sex with a Brain Injury: On Concussion and Recovery (2025 Stonewall Award winner) and the novel Let Me Explain You (2015 New York Times Editors’ Choice). She co-edited A Manner of Being: Writers on their Mentors and contributes to outlets like The Atlantic, Electric Literature, and Lithub.
Awards & Grants: Recipient of the Mellon Foundation grant for Disability Justice storytelling in DC’s criminal justice system. Co-hosts the literary podcast LitFriends.
Professional Activities: Previously served as Visiting Writer at UC Davis, University of Massachusetts, and Bryn Mawr College. Advocates for marginalized communities through storytelling initiatives.
