Dr Annie Hill is an Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, The University of Queensland, and an affiliate of the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre (QARC). Her research focuses on telehealth, aphasia rehabilitation, and speech-language pathology, with a strong emphasis on telerehabilitation innovations and their application in clinical practice. She has led projects such as the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)-funded 'Bridging the Digital Divide' initiative, which aims to improve health self-efficacy through communication-accessible online environments.
Her research interests include the design and implementation of telehealth systems for aphasia treatment, particularly through projects like the TeleGAIN program and TeleCHAT. She has also explored clinical planning for intensive aphasia therapies and the role of technology in supporting self-management for individuals with aphasia. Dr Hill’s work spans multidisciplinary collaboration, with contributions to understanding swallowing disorders in head and neck cancer patients and the impact of telerehabilitation on quality of life.
Her publications reflect a commitment to advancing evidence-based practices, including randomized controlled trials evaluating aphasia programs and systematic reviews of clinician behavior in stroke rehabilitation. Dr Hill’s research often integrates human-centered design principles to ensure technologies meet user needs, particularly for vulnerable populations such as those with communication disorders.
