Annie Dwyer is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Comparative History of Ideas at the University of Washington, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. She serves as a lead instructor for the senior capstone course and previously held the role of Assistant Program Director for the Mellon-funded initiative Reimagining the Humanities PhD and Reaching New Publics at the Simpson Center for the Humanities. She earned her PhD in English Literature and Culture from the University of Washington in 2014.
Her research focuses on intersections of gender, race, sexuality, and species within critical animal studies and environmental humanities. Her current book project, Losing Nature: American Literature and Ecological Grief, traces ecological grief from early conservation movements to contemporary youth climate activism. Additionally, Dwyer works as a mental health counselor specializing in climate psychology.
Her work emphasizes public scholarship and graduate education reform, supported by the Mellon Foundation. She has contributed to fostering engaged teaching and research through her roles in institutional initiatives.
