Annie Bernier is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology at Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She serves as Director of the Laboratoire Grandir Ensemble and is a member of the CERNEC (Centre de recherche en neuropsychologie et cognition) and CIRCA (Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur le cerveau et l'apprentissage). Her research focuses on developmental psychology, particularly the interplay between early social experiences and neurocognitive development, emphasizing parent-child relationships, sleep patterns, and socioemotional adjustment in children.
Her work involves longitudinal studies on sleep trajectories, executive functioning, and brain morphology. She has led or co-led numerous grants, including projects funded by CRSNG, IRSC, and CRSH, investigating topics like mild traumatic brain injury in children and parenting influences on child development. Over two decades, she has supervised 26+ theses, covering attachment, sleep, and executive functioning in children and adolescents. Her research bridges developmental psychology, neuroscience, and clinical applications, with a focus on understanding how early life factors shape lifelong outcomes.
Research Expertise: Developmental Psychology, Child Development, Parent-Child Relationships, Executive Functioning, Sleep Patterns, Brain Development, Attachment Theory.
Grants: Recent projects include investigating brain mechanisms linking early life factors to neurocognitive outcomes (2025–2031), executive functioning in adolescents (2023–2030), and the role of parenting in transitioning to adulthood (2021–2027). She has secured over CAD 5M in funding from national agencies.
