Dr. Annick Thomassin is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University, affiliated with the Fenner School of Environment & Society and the Research School of Humanities & the Arts. Her work focuses on social anthropology and political ecology, particularly in coastal resource co-management, Indigenous fisheries, and environmental stewardship across Australia, Canada, Vietnam, and Japan.

Active in maritime anthropology and Indigenous sovereignty studies, she develops methodologies privileging two-way knowledge exchange with Indigenous communities. Her recent projects include 'Rekindling Japanese and Torres Strait Connections' funded by DFAT, AIATSIS, and ARC, and 'Reviving Dhurga to better talk with Country' under the Indigenous Research Exchange.
Research outputs span fisheries governance, Indigenous economic perspectives, and digital storytelling. She was awarded the Wenner-Gren Hunt Fellowship to transform her thesis on Torres Strait sovereignty into a book.
