Annessa Ann Babic is an Adjunct Professor and Lecturer in the Department of History at Kentucky Wesleyan College, operating as a freelance writer and activist based in New York. Her academic work centers on women's studies, American social and cultural history, public health narratives, and transnational studies with specific emphasis on the modern Middle East and US-Turkish relations.
Her research critically examines nationalism, women's rights and liberation movements, transnational feminism, and the interplay between travel literature, cultural consumption, and geopolitical politics. Notable publications include the book America’s Changing Icons (FDU Press, 2018), guest-edited special editions of the Journal of American Studies in Turkey on travel narratives, and co-edited issues of Food and Foodways. Recent scholarly contributions span book chapters analyzing Chinese American takeaway culture, war narratives in literary icons like Anne of Green Gables, and food activism.
Dr. Babic has received teaching fellowships and research awards supporting her interdisciplinary work. She is currently finalizing a discursive project on travel literature and spatial perceptions in Greece and Turkey while developing a popular-press travel narrative book. Beyond academia, she actively produces travel/lifestyle journalism, fiction, and advocacy content focused on women's and social justice causes.
