Prof. Dr. Annekatrin Steinhoff is an Assistant Professor and Group Leader at the Medical Faculty and University Hospital of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Bern. She leads research on youth mental health, focusing on self-harm, risk-taking behaviors, and developmental psychopathology through a biopsychosocial lens. Her work is supported by an SNSF Starting Grant investigating the emergence and maintenance of self-harm in adolescents. She is affiliated with the z-proso International Research Network (zIReN) and serves as an Associate Editor at The Journal of Early Adolescence.

Research Focus: Combining developmental and biopsychosocial perspectives, her work addresses mental health challenges in youth, with emphasis on self-harm mechanisms, stress, and substance use. Collaborations include interdisciplinary teams at the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development (University of Zurich, 2015–2022).
